How to use this estimate

Match the coverage to the work

Joint finishing uses a reference rate per installed drywall area. A full skim coat needs its own product coverage and number of coats.

01

Choose the application

Select joint finishing or skim coating before entering the area.

02

Check product coverage

Use the coverage for your compound and application from its product sheet.

03

Confirm before buying

Application method, finish level, and surface condition can change actual use.

The math

From area to gallons and pails

Example: 1,000 sq ft of joint finishing

  1. At 9 gal per 1,000 sq ft, the starting quantity is 9 gal.
  2. With 10% extra: 9 × 1.10 = 9.9 gal.
  3. At 4.5 gal per pail: round 9.9 ÷ 4.5 up to 3 pails.

The 9 gal reference describes typical joint finishing, not an entire surface skim coat.
